The purist's pick for a heavier night — a two-floor techno room (house in the warm-up) with a strictly enforced no-photos floor.

The night (is it house?)

Volnost is Seoul's most purist techno room, with house threaded through warm-up and after-hours sets — this is the choice for a heavier, more physical night rather than a disco-leaning one. The venue moved into a whole two-storey building in late 2023: the ground floor is a bar, and the entire second floor is dedicated to the sound system and the floor, with a strict no-photography, no-filming rule once you're upstairs. Since opening in 2017 it has hosted internationally respected techno names (Phase Fatale, Robert Henke, Headless Horseman among past bookings) alongside the reopening-weekend line-up of Henning Baer, Siot and DJ SIN.

DOOR
A specialist room, not a tourist funnel — the crowd is there for the sound system, and the vibe rewards people who come to listen rather than to be seen. No published strict door, but this is a small, dedicated space, so it can fill on a big booking. The strict no-photo rule on the music floor is enforced, not a suggestion.
DRESS
Casual is fine, but Itaewon's techno crowd leans stylish and dark — no strict rule, but scruffy tourist-wear stands out.
PHOTO
Assume no photos on the floor — many clubs cover phone cameras.typical
AGE
19+ (South Korea's legal age; bring your passport)
CASH
Bring some cash — cloakroom and bar are often cash-only.typical
GETTING IN
There's a cover charge on weekend nights, though the exact amount isn't published — budget similarly to Cakeshop (a low-tens-of-thousands-of-won range) and confirm via the club's Instagram or Facebook before you go. Check the week's booking on Resident Advisor: this room is worth planning around a specific DJ rather than showing up blind. Carry your passport for ID.
