Seoul's scrappiest, most internationally wired underground room — house and techno, genuinely mixed, in a basement that doesn't try to look expensive.

The night (is it house?)

Cakeshop is Seoul's longest-running underground room — a gritty, artsy basement that has hosted internationally touring names (including Peggy Gou, before her arena-level fame) alongside Korea's house and techno crews. Expect a genuine mix across a night: warm house and disco early, tougher techno as it fills up after midnight. It isn't a single-genre purist room, so if you want a guaranteed house night, check the week's lineup on Resident Advisor first.

DOOR
Not notoriously selective — this is a welcoming, internationally minded room and the door is mostly about a valid ID and a reasonable manner, not a strict look policy. Itaewon clubs generally favour cash at the door even where the bar inside takes cards, so carry some won. Weekend nights with a known guest DJ can queue and sell out, so don't assume you can walk in any time.
DRESS
Smart-casual and trend-conscious — dark, put-together outfits fit best. Avoid sportswear, flip-flops and obvious tourist gear.
PHOTO
Assume no photos on the floor — many clubs cover phone cameras.typical
AGE
19+ (South Korea's legal age; bring your passport or Alien Registration Card — staff check ID at the door)
CASH
₩10,000–20,000 (typically, as of 2026; varies by night and guest DJ) · cash
GETTING IN
Turn up after 23:00–midnight for the room to actually be moving — arriving at 21:00 opening means an empty floor. Pay the cover in cash at the door; there's no advance-ticket system for a normal week, but bigger guest nights sometimes sell tickets via Resident Advirsor or the venue's Instagram, so check @cakeshopseoul beforehand. Always carry your passport (or Alien Registration Card if you live in Korea) — Seoul clubs check ID for every entrant, not just those who look young.
